Football and Art

Just a few pictures taken this week....

Noah's season of flag football has begun and he had two games this week. He's fun to watch - always on the move and always aware of where the ball is. And he LOVES his coach!

Deven's season of football continues and he's playing really well in spite of a strained tendon (that hurts more than he'll admit). He racked up some great yardage again on Thursday!

Bill and I wandered around downtown GR looking at some beautiful ArtPrize entries. We have a couple of favorites - not just because we know the creators of the pieces, but because the artwork is terrific!

Jane B.'s entry - dyed and felted wool, beads
Beautiful!

Here's Jane's public profile:

Alison DR's entry - shredded paper on canvas, made out of ads and flyers that came to her mailbox. The picture does not do it justice - it's fantastic!

One Fine Week in September

Loving fall! Loving time with family and friends.....

Sunday lunch at church :)

Our friends, Gerrit and Ali, celebrated their 50th (!) wedding anniversary! We cherish our 40 year friendship, the memories of the 8 years we lived across the street from them, and the dinners we continue to enjoy. God bless you, Gerrit and Ali!

We love spending time at Steve & Lynn's on Sunday evenings!

Tori has a newly-decorated bedroom - so nice!

She also is making great progress with her new clarinet :)

Sammy is a pretty intense baseball fan :)

Deven found Great-grandpa's 'smoking jacket' among some of the things that remain at Bill's mom's house. Dashing, don't you think?

Monday supper with friends - perfect! There's no doubt we'll be enjoying that cruise next winter!
Gary & Shirley, Tom & Joan, Bill, Jan & Curt

Laura turned 35 on Tuesday! She is an amazing woman, a marvelous mommy, and a very thoughtful daughter. We thank God for giving her to us - she is pure joy! Happy Birthday to our beloved daughter!

Bill continues his tradition of sending Laura flowers on her birthday,
as he has done since she was a toddler.

Sarah fixed a very nice lunch for me on Tuesday. It was great to spend time with her and her precious boys! She is a busy, patient mommy and she blesses me with her friendship.

I had a great outdoor visit with friends Jay & Elaine and Grady on Tuesday afternoon. Sure do love those folks!

Beckie and I spent some time with Julie on Wednesday afternoon. Julie continues to struggle with a great deal of pain as a result of a ski accident last February. Thanks for your continued prayers for her.

It was an unexpected joy to see Gerrit and Cheri at Julie's :)

We were in Holland on Wednesday afternoon to get the kids off the bus, do some homework, and have supper with them and Tom. The kids even entertained us with music, dance, and drama :) Always fun!

Noah and Sophie entertain us :)

Abby and Sophie perform a lively dance :)

The kids worked on some crafts at the restaurant -
this is Noah's creation :)

Deven was back on the football field on Thursday, missing only one game due to an injury from his first game. Even with a strained tendon and a slight limp, he was able to rack up lots of yardage, including a 75-yard punt return. Great game, Deven!

Our nephew Elwin was married on Friday evening. It was a great celebration and we wish him and Kristi God's best blessings as they begin married life!

Saturday we celebrated Dick & Jacque's 47th anniversary with dinner and a theater production that we exited at intermission. During our many evenings together over the last 30 years, that was a first.....

Our tradition - one dessert, four forks

Dinner with Tom and the kids today. Grandpa told the kids they could have anything they wanted - Noah chose the lobster and loved every bite :) Abby said her fish dinner was the best ever and Sophie loved her chicken and rice. After dinner we stopped by Mom B.'s house where they found a few treasures among their Great-grandma's things.

What a disappointment for Ty! After great practice runs at the Motocross track, his bike blew the engine just as his race was about to start. BUMMER!!! Especially after winning a nice trophy earlier this week.

Tori and Steve before the race

Ty after the race that didn't happen. Again - BUMMER!!!

Last but not least, Anna's parents bought a beautiful home in Holland where they will spend weekends until they retire next year. We are so happy that our grandkids will be blessed by having them nearby - they've already had a sleepover at the new house. Welcome to west Michigan, Bob & Nancy - and congratulations on your precious new granddaughter born this week!
Grandma Nancy

This picture was taken when Laura and Ben were here with their girls two weeks ago. Grandma Jo looks so proud and Anna got the sweetest smile from Annemieke - precious!

May you have many reasons to smile
as God blesses your life
with the great joy of family and friends.

Farewell, Summer!

Summer 2011 is over and it ended with great fun and an easy transition into fall. Because it's been so long since I've updated this blog, there are a few pics that go back several weeks. The first is one of Julie and Bob who invited us to join them for supper. Please pray for Julie as she continues to heal and recuperate from a skiing injury back in February. She deals with on-going pain.

Supper with Gary & Shirley - we cherish these dear friends!

Deven had a great opening football game - 124 yards! He's a great running back who is fearless on the field.

Touchdown!

Very early into Deven's second game, he was injured with a deep muscle bruise and strained tendon. Here's a shot of him trying to convince the trainer that he could stay in the game....but instead he's still hobbling around and was not able to play in the third game of the season. Bummer!

Denise planned a wonderful trip for our annual Sisters and Mom getaway! We started out with an al fresco brunch at her house - so nice we had a hard time leaving. We headed to Marshall where we enjoyed a stay at a great B&B, a carriage ride through the historical district, a delicious supper, and some shopping. The next day we saw a fun, lighthearted musical at Cornwell's before meeting up with the guys at dinner to celebrate Mom's 85th (!) birthday. It was, as always, a few days filled with laughter and joy!

Laura and Ben and their girls spent two weeks here, spending time with both Ben's family and ours. They were able to introduce Annemieke to her uncles, aunts, cousins and even her other grandparents. It was WONDERFUL to have them here and to witness Annemieke's baptism at Ben's home church in Holland.

Thanks to my Mom and Rich who moved out of the cottage early, we were able to spend a wonderful weekend with friends and family at beautiful Big Whitefish Lake.

Bill's mother's house is now on the market. It's a sentimental time for our family and several of walked through and remembered many good times there. For Laura, it was likely her final walk-through.

This pic was a spur-of-the-moment, fresh out of the lake photo. Absolutely love it!

The entire Bonnema clan - doesn't get any better than this!

We are blessed!
