Tonight we celebrated the birthday of our friend, Tom, with dinner at the luxurious and extravagant Pete's - right here in Byron Center! We enjoy and appreciate the friendship they have extended to us. Their daughter Sarah and our grandson Deven joined us for the special occasion.

Today was Grandparents' Day at Byron Christian. It was a marvelous morning of music, visiting classrooms, and time with Deven and Tori. The programs were special times of praise and worship that were inspirational and meaningful.
Tori made an exhibit of the WWII Memorial in Washington D.C. and highlighted the military service of her great-grandpa who was the principal at her school for 37 years.

It's hard to see on this picture, but the book in Tori's exhibit is the Bible in which her great-grandpa X'd off the days while he was a prisoner of war. It also shows his 'dog tags' and the purple heart he was awarded. What a terrific project, Tori!!!

The following pictures were also taken at Byron Christian today and of our traditional lunch afterward.
Abby, Sophie, Noah and I spent Wednesday 'park-hopping' in Holland. We spent lots of time on the playground of one park, took a short hike, and played at Centennial Park where the tulips are beautiful. There are also some pics of their soccer games last Saturday.
Ty is in the middle of a busy season of baseball on the J.V. team of SCHS. These pictures were taken Tuesday and last Saturday.

Our friends Gary and Shirley are back from Florida! We celebrated their return with dinner on Monday evening at - you guessed it - Pete's! It is great to have them back in town!

Two of my friends celebrated their 90th birthdays this week! Grady's birthday was Sunday and his wife Gerri's birthday was Tuesday. I had a wonderful visit with them on the day in-between :)

It was great to spend some time with Elaine and Jay on Monday as well. All four are residents of a nearby care facility and we miss them at Joy Club!

We celebrated Zac's 20th (!) birthday with dinner on Sunday. He is our oldest grandson and we are so very proud of what a great man he has become. He spends weekdays at school down in Ohio but is home most weekends, so we get to see him occasionally. He's hard-working, has a great sense of humor, and treats us with great kindness. Happy Birthday, Zac - we love you!

Bill is enjoying his final weeks of a 40-year career in Christian education. He is leaving South Christian with mixed emotions - he still loves his job, his students, and his friends on the staff. He is receiving words of appreciation, cards, and emails of congratulations from friends and former students, which mean a great deal to him. This article was in the latest newsletter from the school:

I was awakened about 6:30 one morning this week from lots of racket by our bedroom window. A robin was building a nest between the open window and the screen, presumably for the eggs she would lay. I watched her for a while, but common sense prevailed and I had to 'undo' the nest, assuming the window may have to be closed at some point when rain inevitably comes. The mommy bird was not happy and squawked a bit, but soon began rebuilding in a nearby tree.

"See! The winter is past...flowers appear on the earth;
the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves is heard in our land."
